What is a Blog or Blogging?

What is a Blog or Blogging?

While I was doing my research, whenever I typed the words Blog or Blogging were flagged as spelled incorrect. This was really confusing and initiated a search by me for the correct language for writing in a blog.

According to Merriam-Webster online dictionary and Dictionary.com the word blog refers to:

Blog is a web site regarding the writer’s own opinions, experiences and activities. Often writing is accompanied with photos.

Related words include
·        blog (noun or verb)
·        blogged (verb)
·        blogging (verb or noun)
·        blogger (noun)
·        blogosphere (noun) = all of the blogs on the Internet as a collective whole

I also enjoyed Michael Quionion’s explanation of what a blogger is and the history of blogging.
Summary:   Blogging started sometime between 1998 and 2000 with the concept that a person keep an online diary of their explorations of the World Wide Web to share with others. However blogs now may contain modest writings to essays about life – mostly in chronological order.

In my search I furthermore found Judy Rose an online writing consultant’s blog, called Writing English – The international language of business. During her blogging she discusses various attributes about writing including online writing in blogs or websites. One of her blog writing was called:
And I absolutely love this expression and think it may become a common phrase in my future teaching context, especially in related to ICT’s.

In any context but especially in a teaching context the Learning Manager has to display the required language use expected from learners. Although blogging use a less formal writing style, editing is still very important before posting their writing.
